Walking and Wine
Wine country
The Hageland is not only great walking country, it is also wine country. And you can combine both in the vineyards of Wezemaal. Take the 7.5 km walk from the Hageland Wine Regional Visitors’ Centre (Vineyard Hill Walk) through places where vineyards once grew and flourished and where these traditions have been brought back to life again today. The old wine wall still bears testimony to a spirited past. There are beautiful panoramic views from the hillsides and, in good weather, you can see the Hageland unfold beneath your feet.
Be sure to visit the visitors’ centre before you leave. In this beautifully restored nineteenth century, neo-gothic building you can watch multimedia presentations and gain an insight into the local wine making tradition of the past and the present. Would you like to sample some Hageland wine? Then be sure to end your walk in the “Bij Boeres” café right in the village centre. Take a seat on the terrace and enjoy a sunny glass of “Hagelander”.
The Vineyard Walk is part of the Wingevallei network of walks and is signposted throughout.
